I have made it perfectly clear, by now, gentle friends, that I am not a quilter. But I want to be! A Bernina instructor came to the store today and showed us how to do these quick quilt blocks, and it was fun! The block is Drunkard's Path, and it can look very different depending on how you arrange your squares. I had to spend a good portion of my time ripping out, my squares don't have perfect right angles, and I didn't finish, but I had a great time.
Kathy cut our fabric for us, and we rotated machines to get
the benefit of sewing on different machines with different features. It
was a great way to compare machines and I got to use all those fun
decorative stitches
I have ordered some fabric and with the support of my buddy Kathy, hopefully sometime in the not too distant future you will see some REAL quilt squares on Bibi Sews!
This pitiful rendition will make a real quilter smile, but like I said during our little class....a room full of nice women and a sewing project, what's not to like?
Be careful again! Though I have little personal experience with quilting, I know lots of "nice women" who have absolutely been bitten by the bug. My grandmother, for one. It was a lifelong passion for her. I remember hearing her talk about "drunkard's path." Having inherited eight of her quilts, I'm giving them as wedding gifts to her great-grandchildren (my children and their first cousins). I love nothing more than to curl up with a good book under the ugliest quilt of the bunch. I'll not give that one away. It's a gaudy green and pink, which must have been my grandmother's favored color combination. It shows up in all her needlework projects. I love thinking about that little creative statement of hers. You will be making family heirlooms. Choose your colors with care!
ReplyDeleteAw Debbie, I love it! just like a hug from your grandmother and what could be a better wedding gift to her grandchildren? If I could ever finish my list of little dresses...
ReplyDeleteHa! I have a painting called Drunkards Path...and another with blue bottles lining a path called, "I Tried To Go Home But I Ran Into A Bottleneck". Great minds and all that...
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile I have the quilt top I started while pregnant with Esme, who's 12 now. Maybe we can get together on this? Though it may be the drunk leading the blind.
Let's do the drunk leading the drunk!
